SUMMARY:Regenerating Soils: Biology\, Transition & Nutrient Efficiency (Workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Join the Soil Wealth ICP and VegNET Southeast Queensland team for a workshop in Lockyer Valley focused on improving soil health on vegetable farms\, featuring international soil specialist Joel Williams from Integrated Soils. \nAbout the workshop and field walk: \nThe workshop will explore both the theory and practical application of soil health management. The theoretical component will cover key principles of soil biology and soil organic matter science\, helping participants understand the processes that support healthy\, productive soils. \nTo help put theory into practice\, the workshop will also cover strategies for transitioning towards regenerative farming practices to improve soil function and resilience. This will include approaches to integrated nutrient management aimed at improved fertiliser efficiency and reducing input costs. \nThe workshop will also include a field walk at the Soil Wealth ICP demonstration site at Mulgowie Farming Company. At this site\, the trial is exploring practical ways to manage organic nitrogen sources from cover crops (field pea + barley) so they better match sweet corn crop nutrient demand through trialling difference cover crop termination methods. \nThis event is an excellent opportunity for vegetable growers and agronomists to expand their knowledge and explore practical strategies for building healthier soils for a more resilient and cost-effective farming systems. \nBring Soil Samples & Tests \nIf you’re interested\, bring a sample of your soil so we can discuss structure and practical ways to look for life in your soil. \nWe would also be happy to interpret and discuss your soil chemical test results and soil biology test results. Either email them to sophia.thach@ahr.com.au or bring them along on the day. \nWho Should Attend: \nVegetable growers and agronomists who looking are transitioning towards regenerative agriculture and are looking to gain a deeper understanding of soil biology\, organic matter\, and integrated nutrient management. \nRegistration: \nThis workshop is limited to 30 spots for vegetable growers and agronomists – registration is essential and growers and agronomists will be prioritised over those in the supply chain. \nDon’t miss out on this opportunity to improve your soil management practices\, learn from international expert\, Joel Williams and network with growers and agronomists. \nRegister here \nCome clean\, go clean: \nPlease arrive with clean boots and a clean vehicle. \nMeet the Presenters: \nJoel Williams\, Plant and Soil Health Educator\, Integrated Soils \nJoel has a particular interest in designing farming systems that focus on managing soil biology along with crop & soil nutrition to optimise plant immunity and soil function. He has extensive practical experience in Australia\, UK and Canada (where he is currently based) integrating soil and plant analyses as a joined-up strategy for managing production. His passion is in teaching and sharing both scientific and practical knowledge on agroecological growing practices and he has been giving lectures to farming audiences internationally. \nStephanie Tabone\, Research Scientist\, Applied Horticultural Research   \nStephanie is a passionate\, dedicated and hard-working research scientist helping the agriculture industry find and implement solutions to the challenges faced through crop production and the supply chain. \nStephanie had the honour of receiving a 2024 Nuffield Scholarship in 2024. During that time\, she studied the effective use of legumes to supply nitrogen to vegetable crops and travelled across the globe to gain insights and share knowledge and experiences with growers and researchers who could throw light on her studies. \nMore Information: \nPlease contact Monique Rooker\, VegNET and Lockyer Valley Growers Association\, 0456 956 340\, ido@lockyervalleygrowers.com.au or Sophia Thach\, Applied Horticultural Research\, 0413 937 313 or sophia.thach@ahr.com.au.
