Want to regain control over chemical-resistant pests? Aiming to reduce costs while meeting quality assurance requirements? The Integrated Crop Protection (ICP) extension team has developed a fact sheet to help you manage pesticide resistance. Read the fact sheet to find out:
- Why and how resistance occurs
- Steps for minimising pesticide resistance
- What information is on the pesticide label
- What are the control options.
WHAT IS PESTICIDE RESISTANCE?
Basically is the capacity of parasites weeds and diseases to counteract the effects of pesticides
HOW PESTICIDE RESISTANCE ARISES?
The answer is basically into genetic of some individual parasites, using pesticides most of the population will die but a small part will survive transformed the letal toxin into something less harmful
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE PESTICIDE HASEN’T BEEN USED FOR A WHILE?
The most of pesticides are sold with the intent to suppress instead to destroy the parasites, so not all of them will be eliminated. This means that parasites not susceptible will survive creating a new population
CONTROL OPTIONS
The best control it’s not universal but a mix of three options: Biological, Cultural and Chemical
