A series of guides are available to vegetable growers and agronomists to provide a better understanding of the best ways to use pesticides in an Integrated Pest Management Program to maximise the impact of beneficial species.
Seven user-friendly guides have been developed to provide information on the effects of pesticides on key beneficial insects that are important in a range of crops. They include:
- Brassicas
- Cucurbits and fruiting vegetables
- Leafy vegetables and head lettuce
- Legume vegetables
- Root and tuber
- Stalk and stem vegetables
- Sweet corn
The results presented in the guide have been compiled from several sources which include scientific literature, international pesticide data bases, the results of testing that has been conducted for the strategic levy investment VG16067 ‘Impact of pesticides on beneficial arthropods of importance in Australian vegetable production’ funded by Hort Innovation and field observations.
The development of these guides was led by IPM Technologies.
