Center West Exports, a carrot producer and exporter based in Gingin, Western Australia, hosted a Soil Wealth ICP demonstration site during Phase 1 of the project from 2016-18. The demonstration site tested custom-made composts and organic amendments to improve the health of the farm’s sandy soils in two separate trials. The trial results appeared to reduce soil-borne disease such as Pythium, and improved overall soil health.
Since hosting the Soil Wealth ICP demonstration site, Center West Exports has continued to observe the site to look at the longer term effects of compost and carbon applications on carrots and the relative economic benefits. The trial site has now been mono-cropping carrots for over 30 years and is still performing well with exceptional quality.
Center West Exports has since continued to run on-farm trials and implemented a range of innovations across the business.
