The Braham family are premium greenhouse capsicum growers based in Virginia, South Australia. For over 10 years, Andrew has implemented an integrated pest management (IPM) approach on his farm to reduce chemical use and manage pest pressure through biological means. Thirps and Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV) remain ongoing and significant challenges in greenhouse capsicum production across the region.
The Soil Wealth ICP team collaborated with IPM consultant Dr Anita Marquart from Biological Services at Braham Produce. Together with Andrew and his team, Anita is leading the study to fund out whether the use of banker plants can support the establishment and persistence of the beneficial insect Orius and help boost its population. Andrew and Anita agreed to the study being a Soil Wealth ICP demo site showcase and this case study shares the results.
