We recently hosted a webinar on the Sustainable Vegetable Systems (SVS) project, exploring how this online tool supports grower decision making in Aotearoa-New Zealand. The SVS Tool provides information growers need to determine the optimal nitrogen fertiliser rate for their crops helping to achieve better crop yields and improved environmental outcomes. If you missed the live event, you can now watch the full webinar recording below.
Andrew Barber (Agrilink NZ) provided an overview of the SVS tool and its purpose. Dr Bruce Searle (Plant & Food Research NZ) shared insights into the extensive trials and data that were used to build the tool. Katherine Martin and Bryan Hart (AS Wilcox & Sons) explained how they use the SVS tool to inform input decisions for their potato crops. Finally, Camilla Humphries (SWICP and RMCG) and Dale Creed (Butler Market Gardens) discussed their work adapting the SVS model for the Australian vegetable industry, using data and results from the SWICP demonstration site.
Unfortunately, we did not get time for the Q&A but we have answered all your questions, you can read them here.
If you would like to familiarise yourself with the tool, you can create a free SVS account here. If you have any questions, please contact Andrew Barber ([email protected]). Otherwise, the SWICP team look forward to sharing further developments of the SVS tool to the Australian vegetable industry.
