Grown Smart Produce is a family-owned hydroponic protected cropping business, managed by Doug Chamberlain and Peter Ruddle, in the outer northern Perth region of Carabooda, Western Australia.
Late in 2023, the Soil Wealth ICP program, in conjunction with VegNET WA (vegetablesWA), commenced working with Doug and Peter on a hydroponic cucumber production demonstration site.
The focus for the demonstration site was on improving crop health, fine-tuning nutrition, and improving nutrient use efficiency by monitoring plant nutrition levels and managing fertigation inputs accordingly. It also looked at temperature and relative humidity in the greenhouse production system.
