This is the first in a series of two online facilitated sessions designed to inform and educate vegetable growers about waste management options for plastics and organics.
The ‘Solutions for on-farm plastics’ webinar recording aims to educate growers on managing on-farm plastics and recycling, highlighting relevant stewardship programs and practical solutions. It also provided an opportunity to investigate what tools/support growers are needing in this space.
In this webinar recording, Dr Anne-Maree Boland (Soil Wealth ICP/RMCG) provided an overview of plastic waste in the vegetable industry including the problem plastics and potential solutions.
Adam Burbury from Agsafe discussed the product stewardship programs available to growers, including ChemClear, drumMUSTER and bagMUSTER. Adam shared the objectives of each program, the eligibility and participation requirements, and how growers can prepare their materials for recycling.
Vegetable agronomist Lok Chow from Coolibah Herbs in Victoria provided a grower’s perspective of current challenges and management of key plastic waste as well as their focus for the future.
